Inspiration
Air pollution kills an estimated seven million people worldwide every year. Air pollution poses major threats to the health of humans and animals, transforming into either to medical costs and sadly, even human lives. Often, Air pollution comes from human activities, such as smoking and factories. We found out that there are two areas we can focus our attention and solution on, On the government and individual lifestyle. Often, information plays a part on what we do and behave, we want to provide a solution that people can use to track air quality within their communities and environment, on the government side, we want to use this technology as a evidence and tool for better air quality management, thus potentially saving more lives against this threat.
What it does
It tracks and visualize air pollution data on a global map.
How we built it
We talk about what problem we can focus and found out that air pollution in our country, is an area not actively talk about, so we discuss about technologies and platforms we could use to build a simple prototype and found out that we can use APIs, Azure And Python programming to create and build this.
Challenges we ran into
- Getting the appropriate data and functionality from several APIs
- How we can display the data on a map on real-time
- Finding helpful documentations, tutorials and manuals for this project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Git Repository Management.
- Knowing A thing about GeoJSON
- Got started for free on Azure
What we learned
We learned more about the following:
- Azure Maps
- Python programming
- Flask framework
- GitHub
- Air quality open data platform
- GeoJson for storing and transporting geospatial data
What's next for Air And Pollution Tracker
We plan to make this accessible to mobile, adding capabilities such as finding nearby medical facilities, tracking deforestation and indicating number of people who have contracted an illness during an epidemic or pandemic over a area.
