AI Family Quiz TV — Bringing Families Together Through Trivia
Inspiration 💡
In today's world, many families spend time watching television but do not always have opportunities to interact and play together. I wanted to turn the TV into something more than a screen for watching content. My idea was to create an interactive quiz game where family members and friends can challenge each other, learn new things, and enjoy quality time together.
This inspired me to build AI Family Quiz TV, a family-friendly trivia game designed for the Fire TV experience.
What It Does 🎮
AI Family Quiz TV transforms trivia into an engaging shared entertainment experience. Players can participate in quiz rounds, answer questions, earn points, and compete for the top position on the leaderboard.
The game is designed around a variety of topics, including:
- Sports: Cricket, football, hockey, kabaddi, the Olympics, and Asian Games.
- Movies: Bollywood and Hollywood trivia.
- General Knowledge: Questions that test knowledge across different subjects.
- Family Gameplay: A multiplayer-style experience that encourages everyone to participate.
The application includes a home screen, quiz gameplay, a leaderboard, and a How to Play section. Its visual design focuses on colorful elements, readable text, and straightforward navigation for a television screen.
The goal is to make quiz nights more enjoyable while encouraging friendly competition and learning.
How I Built It 🛠️
I developed the project using Android Studio and Kotlin, with XML layouts for designing the user interface.
My development process involved creating the main screen, designing the quiz interface, organizing the application's resources, and implementing navigation between different sections. I also worked on making the layout suitable for a large television display.
The project is designed with TV usability in mind, including clear visual elements and navigation that can be adapted for a remote control. I focused on making the experience approachable for users of different ages.
Challenges I Faced 🚧
One of the main challenges was designing an interface that works well on a television rather than just on a mobile phone. Text size, spacing, focus states, and navigation all require special attention when users interact from a distance.
Another challenge was connecting the different parts of the experience so that users can move between the home screen, quiz, leaderboard, and instructions without confusion. I also had to consider how to keep gameplay interesting through a broader range of questions and topics.
Testing interactions and refining the interface helped me identify areas that needed improvement and better understand the importance of usability.
What I Learned 📚
Building this project helped me improve my understanding of Android development, Kotlin, XML layouts, application structure, and user-interface design. I also learned that developing for a TV requires a different approach from developing for a touchscreen device.
Most importantly, I learned to think about the complete user experience—from launching the app to answering questions and viewing scores—rather than focusing only on individual screens.
What's Next? 🚀
I want to continue improving AI Family Quiz TV by expanding its question bank, introducing more dynamic quiz experiences, improving score tracking, and exploring AI-assisted question generation and adaptive difficulty.
My long-term vision is to make AI Family Quiz TV a fun, accessible, and replayable entertainment platform that brings families and friends together through learning and friendly competition.
