In more and more German cities, older Diesel cars are not allowed on specific roads. The effect is absurd - these cars simply take the neighbouring roads, sometimes increasing pollution due to longer trips, and nobody is helped.
We think this can be done more intelligently. Enter Agent Traffic!
What it does
Simulates traffic to calculate possible reroutings intelligently. Includes environmental impact estimation.
How I built it
A "game world" in SDL, simulating the roads. ROS dealing with message passing. Python scripts for the agents and the world model.
Challenges I ran into
SDL is a pain to set up and ROS makes it even harder. This is simply because it is too large for a small hackaton project. As we want to continue working on this, it still made sense to "start big".
What I learned
Stay calm in the face of compile errors.
