Inspiration

When we came to Islamabad we had no idea about the routes, stops and fares of public transportation. I asked people, many of them didn't had proper information. We ended up somewhere else wasting a lot of time, money and energy. We always found it hard to travel through local transportation.

Another example: Once we friends had to meet up and one of us had to travel through local wagon. He didn't had any idea which wagon to take and due to misguidance of people he reached centaurus instead of i10.

It happens with most of the people while traveling through public transportation. Due to unavailability and lack of managed information.

What it does

We built an android application and a web platform making all the routes, stops and their fares available.

Web:

You enter where you want to go and where you want to go from and we calculate what possible and nearest public/local transport routes are there for you.

Android:

The best part is you don't need internet to access the routes, stops and fares information. All you have to do is install the android application on your smartphone and you get everything without any cost. No need to be connected to internet all the time.

How we built it

We have created a back-end server which have everything in a database. All the latitudes and longitudes are saved for the stops and routes. We have used bootstrap framework to create a unique user experience for the website and google maps to create the routes and stops.

For mobile application we are using openstreet offline maps and json formatted information about the stops and routes.

Challenges we ran into

We have created 2 different web designs tackling the user experience of our website. We had a bit hard time finding the data about all the routes and stops. We manually searched and collected the location information about each and every stop.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

There was a problem and we solved it. We are proud of it no matter what.

What we learned

Team work and design thinking is the best part of our learning.

What's next for Aamd O Raft

Aamd o raft Lahore, Aamd O raft Karachi, Aamd O raft Peshawar are on us. We would need more people to help us out to take this solution to whole Pakistan.
