Inspiration

We aimed to share our passion for music and the arts with the incorporation of technological components. There's a common misconception that live performances occur only at large venues or large cities. Similarly, when visiting a new city, one may struggle to discover local events and performances to enjoy. This is where we decided to come in! By combining multiple tools, we generated a creative platform that locates all venues and their events based on the city searched to uncover events to be enjoyed by all!

What it does

Zots of Venues illustrates a list of local venues based on the city searched. The results are delivered in an organized, readable styled manner. Upon navigating the list of venues, the location and number of events are highlighted. The user is then given the option to select a venue and purchase tickets.

How we built it

At its core, Zots of Venues was constructed via Replit with a combination of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and the SeatGeek Platform API, a public API. We used the SeatGeek API to fetch data on venues in certain locations. We also used the Bing Search API to find accurate images of each venue. Furthermore, mechanisms such as effects, animation, and illustrations were incorporated. Through meticulous coding, the various tools were united and combined to create an efficient user-friendly platform.

Challenges we ran into

  • Our first hackathon. We struggled to find an area where we wanted to begin and at times struggled to implement our specific visions and techniques.
  • No prior experience with animation or incorporating a public API.
  • It was a trial-and-error process. When some of our ideas were unsuccessful, we had to incorporate our problem-solving skills and creativity.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Effectively merging various languages, frameworks, and APIs to create a user-friendly platform that yields accurate, thorough results.
  • Developing new skills through various languages, platforms, and APIs.

What we learned

  • APIs enhance the communication between systems, allowing for the exchange of data and functionality.
  • New technological tools such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, animation, generating effects, and how to merge the multiple mechanisms.

What's next for Zots of Venues

  • Developing an app that's iOS and Android user-friendly.
  • Incorporating a filter that sorts and groups venue events based on genre/topic, event prices, and event duration.
  • Collaborating and obtaining a sponsorship with services that sell event tickets such as SeatGeek, VividSeats, or Ticketmaster to enhance user experience.
