Inspiration
We wanted to create a fun and interactive way for people to learn about endangered animals while making a real impact on conservation. Many educational websites feel outdated and passive, so we aimed to build an engaging experience that lets users explore habitats, chat with AI-powered animals, and earn rewards for learning. Our goal was to make wildlife education exciting while encouraging real-world action.
What It Does
Zoo Quest is an interactive website that allows users to learn about animals through AI-powered chats, explore different habitats using virtual maps, and track their progress with quests and points. The platform provides detailed information on endangered species, links to conservation efforts, and plans to let users convert their earned points into real donations through partnerships with wildlife organizations.
How We Built It
We developed Zoo Quest using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the front end, while integrating the OpenAI API to create dynamic AI animal conversations. The website’s interactive features, such as habitat exploration and quest tracking, were built using JavaScript and local storage to save user progress. In the future, we plan to expand by integrating a backend database to store user achievements and support donation-based reward systems.
Challenges We Ran Into
One of the biggest challenges was making the AI-generated animal responses feel natural and engaging while staying accurate to real-world behavior. We also had to balance interactive features with a simple, user-friendly design to avoid overwhelming visitors. Lastly, implementing a point system that could eventually be tied to real-world donations presented logistical hurdles that we plan to refine in future updates.
Accomplishments
We successfully created an engaging platform where users can interact with virtual animals, explore realistic habitats, and learn about conservation in an exciting way. Integrating AI chat features and designing an intuitive, visually appealing interface were major milestones. Seeing our project come to life and function smoothly was a rewarding achievement.
What We’re Proud Of
We’re most proud of making wildlife education fun and interactive while keeping conservation at the core of our project. The AI chat feature adds a unique touch, making it feel like you’re talking directly to animals, and the habitat exploration gives users a better understanding of different ecosystems. Knowing that this project has the potential to inspire real-world action makes it even more meaningful to us.
What’s Next for Zoo Quest
We plan to expand Zoo Quest by integrating a user login system to track progress across devices, adding new animals and habitats, and forming partnerships with conservation organizations to turn virtual points into real donations. We also want to enhance the AI interactions with voice features and improve the visual design of habitat explorations. Our ultimate goal is to make Zoo Quest a leading platform for wildlife education and conservation engagement!
