Inspiration
You know how tricky it can be to keep track of time when you're jet-setting across different time zones or trying to schedule meetings with people from all over the world. It's like a puzzle trying to fit everyone's schedules together. That's what inspired the creation of Zonerly - the need for a simple and convenient way to handle time zone differences.
What it does
Zonerly is like your personal time zone concierge. You can add all the cities you care about - whether it's Shanghai, San Francisco, Moscow, or Lucerne - and it automatically shows you the correct time. No more mental math or searching through time zone converters online. Plus, with the drag-to-see feature, you can quickly compare times and plan your day effortlessly. It even handles Daylight Saving Time changes for you, so you don't have to worry about a thing.
How I built it
Building Zonerly was all about combining smart design with powerful technology. We crafted a user-friendly interface that makes navigating time zones a breeze. Behind the scenes, we built a robust database to store all the time zone data and ensure accuracy. And making the drag-to-see feature work smoothly required some clever coding to handle the interactions seamlessly.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges we faced was sourcing and maintaining the massive database of time zones and cities. Keeping it updated and accurate was no small task. And making sure everything ran smoothly, especially with the drag-to-see feature, required some serious optimization and fine-tuning.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm really proud of how Zonerly turned out. It's not just a tool - it's a solution to a real problem that people face every day. Seeing it come together, overcoming challenges along the way, and knowing that it's helping people stay connected across the globe is incredibly rewarding.
What I learned
Developing Zonerly taught me so much - from the intricacies of managing time zones to the importance of user experience in design. I gained valuable insights into database optimization and real-time data updates. And navigating the complexities of international timekeeping systems definitely sharpened my problem-solving skills.
What's next for Zonerly
We're just getting started with Zonerly. In the future, we want to make it even more powerful and user-friendly. That means adding new features to make scheduling and collaboration easier, and expanding our database to include even more cities and regions. We're committed to continuously improving Zonerly to make global time management as seamless as possible.
