FinePrint: AI City Compliance

Inspiration

Small business owners, food truck operators, and local event hosts often spend thousands of dollars in legal fees or risk severe municipal fines simply because local city bylaws and zoning codes are buried within hundreds of pages of obscure legal documents. Because regulations vary significantly across municipal boundaries, what is completely legal on one street might be strictly prohibited three blocks away. We were inspired to build Fineprint to democratize civic compliance, providing local entrepreneurs with an instant, accessible platform to navigate hyper-local rules without requiring a legal background or an expensive consultant.

What it does

FinePrint is an AI-powered municipal compliance engine that transforms dense city laws and zoning codes into an interactive, step-by-step roadmap. Users begin by inputting their business address alongside a plain-English description of their operational plan, such as running a food truck with outdoor seating and acoustic music until 10 PM. The platform analyzes local municipal codes to deliver a clean, color-coded compliance dashboard that categorizes operations into permitted activities, conditional rules, and required permits. Additionally, FinePrint features agentic permit automation, allowing users to auto-fill official municipal PDF applications with a single click.

How we built it

We built it by using claude and claude cloudfare and anthropic API

Challenges we ran into

The challenges we ran into was each time we tried to get the final result we, found some kind of error with our API key. So we had to create 5 API keys, each fixing its own problem. We finally found the API key that actually works.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The accomplishments we are proud of are the clear answer our AI gives to our user, and it also creates them different types of email writings.

What we learned

What we learned is that the API key is the hardest part, and we had to revise it so many times.

We will make sure that our website can access more people throughout the world by adding different languages.
