How to run the game
Open the google drive folder and download "ZombonaWindows.zip", "ZombonaMac.app.zip" or "ZombonaLinux.zip" depending on your Operating System. Extract the folder and then run the executable file, called "Zombona" and you're good to go!
Inspiration
It's been a rough couple of years and we as a team were facing the blues, so we decided to make a fun little game as a satirical take on the situation.
Story
You are Bob, and your job is to clean up the zombie infestation. That is the premise of the game, and you are given a wide variety of tools as well as powerups to make your job easier. Try and reach the highest score you can, have fun!
There is a story mode, which teaches you the basics and brings you up to speed with the game mechanics. There are several power ups available, explosive barrels, and a shop that sells weapons and vaccines to cure the infected citizens and make them your allies! After understanding the mechanics of the game, you can attempt the endless mode to compete against yourself to beat your highscore.
How we built it
Bharath works with Unity and Photoshop, Pranav works with Blender.
Challenges we ran into
We found it harder than we initially thought to integrate the rigs and the lighting for the game. However those were just minor hitches and we look to add implement more features for a semi release in ~July.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are really proud of our postprocessing graphics, as well as the custom animations our characters are involved in. We also made use of many innovative techniques currently used in the game industry such as screen shake, audio distortion, post processing effects, a saving system that persists between scenes and even if the application is restarted, dynamic lighting and emission-based materials.
What we learned
We learnt how to create a 3D game with Unity and edit audio during run-time. We also learnt how to create an efficient and quick pipeline to transfer assets and materials from Blender to Unity.
What's next for Zombona
We are aiming for a soft release in the Summer of 2022 :)
