Inspiration
We love both simulation tycoon games and classic tower defense challenges, but we noticed there weren’t many games that combine economic management with strategic defense. Our goal was to create a world where players must not only build towers, but also manage resources, expand their base, and make tough decisions under pressure. The zombie theme gave us the perfect setting for high stakes and endless waves of fun.
What it does
Zombie Meat Clash lets players build a base, manage income, and place defenses to stop waves of zombies. Players collect resources, upgrade structures, and optimize their economy while strategically positioning turrets to survive increasingly difficult waves.
How we built it
We built the current version of the game inside Meta Horizon Worlds, using its scripting blocks and object system to design turrets, zombies, and wave logic. We also leveraged GenAI tools in Horizon Worlds to speed up our creative workflow, using Mesh Generation for some props, Skybox Generation for the environment, and SFX Audio Generation to create immersive sound effects. Our previous experience building a similar game in Unity (with C# scripting, model prefabs, and an economy manager) gave us a strong foundation. We reused the core game design principles from that Unity prototype and adapted them to Horizon's environment, optimizing for multiplayer performance and making the controls intuitive for mobile players. This approach allows us to eventually export and recreate the full Unity version if we want to expand to other platforms.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing was the hardest part, making sure the game stays fun but challenging. We also had to carefully optimize performance so large zombie waves wouldn’t slow the game down.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of successfully merging two genres into one seamless experience, as well as building a scalable wave system that can generate endless replayability.
What we learned
We learned a lot about economy balancing, wave difficulty scaling, and the importance of playtesting early to catch unbalanced systems before they frustrate players.
What's next for Zombie Meat Clash
Next, we plan to add more turrets types, zombie bosses, and a research tree to deepen the tycoon aspect. Our focus will be on creating dynamic co-op missions, wave modifiers, and special events that reward teamwork. We also want to introduce player progression systems, such as unlockable upgrades, so players have long-term goals. In the future, we aim to experiment with seasonal events, limited-time zombie variants to keep the experience fresh and engaging.
