ZOEMEC AI - The AI Operating System for Construction

Inspiration

Construction professionals still spend hours converting technical concepts into detailed cost estimates, Bills of Quantities, and Unit Price Analyses (APUs). Most workflows depend on spreadsheets, repetitive manual work, and fragmented technical documentation.

We wanted to build an AI-native platform that allows engineers to describe a construction concept in natural language and obtain a complete, traceable, and editable technical proposal in seconds.

Our vision is simple: make AI a real engineering assistant instead of just another chatbot.

What it does

ZOEMEC AI transforms construction concepts into professional engineering documents.

The platform can:

  • Generate complete APUs from natural language.
  • Analyze technical descriptions.
  • Suggest materials, labor, equipment and indirect costs.
  • Produce editable budgets.
  • Export professional PDF and Excel files.
  • Explain every engineering decision through an AI assistant.
  • Create technical evidence for every generated estimate.
  • Maintain traceability from concept to final budget.

Instead of replacing engineers, ZOEMEC helps them work faster and with greater confidence.

How we built it

ZOEMEC combines modern web technologies with OpenAI models.

Main technologies include:

  • React
  • Next.js
  • TypeScript
  • Firebase Authentication
  • Firestore
  • Vercel
  • OpenAI
  • Excel processing
  • PDF generation

The platform integrates AI directly into the engineering workflow instead of treating it as an external chatbot.

Challenges

The biggest challenge was transforming unstructured construction descriptions into structured engineering data while preserving technical consistency.

We also focused on making the AI explain its reasoning instead of producing black-box answers.

Another important challenge was creating a user experience that engineers could immediately trust.

What we learned

Building AI products for engineering requires much more than generating text.

The real value comes from combining domain knowledge, structured technical data, explainability, and a workflow that professionals can actually use in production.

This project taught us how AI can become an engineering co-pilot rather than just a content generator.

What's next

Our roadmap includes:

  • Multi-user collaboration
  • Company knowledge bases
  • BIM integrations
  • Technical regulations search
  • Voice engineering assistant
  • Construction document understanding
  • Enterprise deployment

Our long-term vision is to become the AI operating system for construction companies worldwide.
