In current times marked with COVID-19 many people long for getting back to their everyday lives before the pandemics. One of daily activities that people had to change their habits of is shopping. We wanted to bring back the experience of performing daily tasks without the scare of being infected or spreading the disease. As virtual reality became our new reality we decided to harness the possibilities it delivers to create this project.
What it does
Our project delivers a VR shop that can be configured to fit the seller's needs. In the VR Shop user can walk through the aisles, look through the products displayed on shelves and put desired products in a shopping list (and delete it from the list if they change their mind).
How we built it
We built our project using Unity. Scripts and project logic was implemented in C#. We used royalty free assets and textures.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was to work out collision interactions between items that would allow user to grab the products without knocking over the rest of the products on the shelf at the same time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It was our first project in Unity for VR and we're proud of how the teamwork and knowledge sharing allowed us to create a full project.
What we learned
We learned a lot on how to use Unity to develop applications for Oculus Quest 2 and how to transcribe ideas and from "real" reality to virtual one.
