Inspiration

The leader of our team was looking for a job in the local tech scene and felt encumbered with having to do a multitude of code challenges, the majority of which left him uncompensated unless he managed to secure the job position.

What it does

ZipDev is an extension for the main ZipRecruiter site, but mainly for developers and other professions where demonstration of skill is an important part to the hiring process. On ZipDev, businesses looking to hire developers post challenges for potential developers to solve, and attach with them a cash reward. Developers can then see these challenges and, within a specified time limit, complete them for a chance at part of the challenge's posted reward. The company rates the projects on a Pass/Fail rating scale, and all developers who passed the challenge receive an equal share of the reward paid out to them in bitcoin. This provides developers with compensation for their work and a stable source of credibility, as well as providing businesses with a large pipeline of developers for which they can then interview and potentially hire.

How we built it

We built this site using React, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Challenges we ran into

Given the time constraint under which we were placed, we weren't able to finish the entire extent of the website that we set up. We have enough of the site complete for a demo's purposes, but there is still a lot of work that needs to be put into making this a fully fleshed out application.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to build an application, use Bitcoin technology, and flesh out this idea, all in under 24 hours; that's an achievement to be proud of.

What we learned

We learned quite a bit about the process of setting up a website and integrating it with taking in data; while we had to sanitize all of the data that we were using in order to ensure a consistent demo workflow, we feel confident about our ability to continue on with this site and fully implement it.

What's next for ZipDev

We would like to fully implement a backend for ZipDev, as well as integrate it into ZipRecruiter's already large suite of services.
