Inspiration
Personally, I have always wanted to try web scraping. I feel like it would be very useful for my personal projects. My teammates wanted to gain more experience in a side project and improve their python skills.
What it does
Scrapes information from Zillow, inluding price, coordinates, town region, and link to the listing.
How we built it
We followed a long a tutorial/code of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRcvJRmqFHQ. Our aim in this datathon was not to compete or claim this code as our own, but to learn!
Challenges we ran into
There was a lot of time taking into learning the syntax of python, and there was some struggles with package installation and os compatibility. Nothing insurmountable though!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Learning git, Learning visual studio code, learning about the beautifulsoup and requests packages, and web scraping for the very first time!
What we learned
Some of us got to experience seeing a project from beginning to end for the first time.
What's next for Zillow Web-Scrape Project
I will go on to apply what I learned in this project to some personal ideas I have had for the longest time, and my teammates will do the same! Improving python and data mining/cleaning skills along the way.
