Inspiration

What it does

  • when a button is pressed, user is prompted to select rock/paper/scissors in command line
  • computer randomly selects one itself and moves its 'fingers' into position
  • keeps a score

How we built it

  • used ssh to code to a raspberry pi with a bread connecting the hardware components

Challenges we ran into

  • we also made a hand detection program that could recognise the 3 shapes based off of the users hand gestures using a webcam and also drew the live hand framework over the top of the video feed, but we couldn't connect it to the raspberry pi so had to make a last minute switch to a command line interface
  • we also had no tape and had to sew the servo motors into some cardboard, which was then sewn onto more cardboard
  • didn't sleep a wink leading to crazy ideas like sewing hardware into cardboard

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • finishing the hackathon with a technically working project
  • correctly connecting all the hardware
  • being able to make a program that can detect and draw over hands in real time

What we learned

  • how to connect components to a raspberry pi using a breadboard
  • how to code on a raspberry pi (first time)
  • physical hacks require a lot more thought into structural integrity

What's next for Zibzidi rock paper scissors

  • connecting the webcam hand detection to the rest of the project so users can play by signalling the shapes with their hands in the camera
  • building a better structure for the alien base
