Current opposition facing energy and resource consumption is on grounds of economic growth and the general lack of economic incentives in favor of environmental friendliness. Zeus was created to align incentives from the top-down at a government, utility provider, and household level.

What it does

Zeus provides a framework in which society can incentivize households to reduce their resource consumption. Households can see their relative standing and resource consumption in their neighborhood. Humans place a value on social acceptance, so being able to see where they stand in relation to others can make high-consumers self-conscious, and validate low-consumers. Further, their standings enable them to change their usage over time in order to qualify for the rebate prize offered by Zeus.

How I built it

Node.js backend with Typescript, hosted on an AWS EC2 with an NGINX proxy. React/Redux front-end calling backend through REST APIs. Used Google Geocoding & Maps for geographic data/information.

Challenges I ran into

I had some issues with Google Maps integration. Also had to learn quite a bit of CSS3 for some of the more advanced animations on the home page. I thought the overall design was really clean, and it took me a while to figure out.
