My inspiration was my dad, who is recovering from knee surgery. He finds his seated exercises boring and lacks motivation. I wanted to build a simple, fun app to keep him on track with his recovery goals, bridging the distance between us with a helpful, engaging tool.
What it does The app is a single web page with three large buttons: "Warm-Up," "Daily Routine," and "Cool-Down." Each button leads to a full-screen video with simple "Play," "Pause," and "Restart" controls. The design prioritizes readability and ease of use for seniors with large fonts, high-contrast colors, and a clutter-free layout.
How we built it Zestful Sitters was built using the Bolt AI web development platform from a single, detailed prompt. We specified a user-centric design with accessibility in mind. The prompt directed Bolt to use React for the user interface and Tailwind CSS for styling, resulting in a responsive, modern, and accessible application.
Challenges we ran into Translating a complex user need (recovering senior with tech anxiety) into a simple, effective prompt was the main challenge. We had to focus on the core user experience and remove all unnecessary features to avoid overwhelming the user.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We successfully created a genuinely accessible and easy-to-use UI from a single prompt. This project demonstrates the power of AI tools like Bolt to quickly build real-world solutions that address specific user needs, all while prioritizing accessibility.
What we learned This project reinforced that simplicity is key to accessibility. By focusing on the user's limitations and fears, we learned to design a product that is not just functional but also empowering.
What's next for Zestful Sitters We plan to add features like daily reminders to stay on track, a progress tracker to celebrate achievements, and an expanded library of seated routines.
