Inspiration
We’re Ramsri and Danish. We met for the first time at the OpenAI Codex Hackathon in Hyderabad and decided to build something together in a single, very intense day.
The idea came from a problem we both understood: creating a presentation often takes more time than preparing what you actually want to say. We wondered what if you could simply start talking and the presentation built itself around you?
What it does
ZeroPrep listens while you speak and creates a live visual presentation in real time. As your ideas change, it can hold the current scene, add more detail, or move to a completely new visual. There are no slides to prepare and no buttons to click while presenting.
Once the talk is finished, the generated presentation can be downloaded as a PDF or PowerPoint.
How we built it
We used OpenAI’s Realtime API to understand the speaker and decide how the visuals should evolve. The presentation itself is rendered with Next.js and React, while Gemini generates background imagery without interrupting the flow.
Codex was our pair programmer throughout the hackathon. It helped us move quickly between the voice experience, dynamic layouts, generated visuals, exports, and interface polish.
Challenges
The hardest part was making everything feel live. Speech arrives continuously, visuals need to update at the right moment, and generated images may take longer than the conversation. We had to make sure the presentation remained useful even while an image was still loading or if image generation failed entirely.
We also had to prevent older responses from changing a newer scene and make the generated layouts flexible enough to handle many different kinds of content.
What we learned
The biggest lesson was how quickly two people who had just met could turn an idea into a working product. Building ZeroPrep in one day forced us to focus on the experience that mattered most: just speak, and let the presentation follow.
By the end of the hackathon, we had gone from being strangers to shipping something we were genuinely excited to present.
