Inspiration
I spend most of my day working on my desktop, but the interesting things I find — a useful link, a thought, a todo — always show up on my phone. Every time I switch to the phone to save something, the flow breaks. I wanted an agent that catches these moments for me, so I never have to open my phone while working.
What it does
ZeroGap is a cross-device AI agent built with Google ADK:
- Send from anywhere: paste a link, drop a note, or say "add todo: buy batteries on Friday" from your phone — through a simple chat entry that needs no native app.
- Understands automatically: Gemini 3.5 Flash extracts the title and summary, classifies the content (work / study / life), and turns natural-language todos into structured tasks.
- Syncs in real time: everything lands in Firestore and appears instantly on a desktop dashboard, so your phone can stay in your pocket.
How we built it
- Google ADK + Gemini 3.5 Flash for content understanding, classification, and todo extraction
- Firestore for real-time cross-device sync
- Cloud Run for the backend agent service
- A lightweight web dashboard with Firebase client SDK listening to live updates
Challenges we faced
- Keeping the agent's classification fast and cheap while still being useful
- Making the async agent feel "real-time" on the receiving end (event streams + Firestore listeners)
- Designing the phone-side entry so simple that saving takes under 3 seconds, or people won't use it
What we learned
An agent earns its keep when it removes the action, not just the words: we learned to design for zero hand-holding — the agent decides, stores, and organizes by itself, and the user only reviews.
What's next
Team inboxes (shared collections), browser extension on desktop, and agent-suggested follow-ups like "the article you saved matches your in-flight project".
