Introduction

The 17 UN SDGs are concerning in every community, especially our country. The SDG that resonated with us is the second SDG which is Zero Hunger. We have seen how hunger affects our communities. Over the past years it has been increasing, it might not be increasing by alarming numbers but that does not excuse it. In South Africa, there are about 20 million people who are on the spectrum of food insecurity and vulnerability. There are 27% of children suffering from malnutrition, and that is devastating not just for the children and their families but for the future of our country. Million tons of edible food go to landfills each year. There is a high rate of food wastage from farms to supermarkets.

Solution

The solution that we have decided to solve this problem is to create a web app that connects farms, supermarkets, and restaurants to NGOs and charities. The web app will allow the charities within the communities to mention what they need and the farms, restaurants and supermarkets will supply their needs based on the produce they have. The produce will be distributed to charities feeding and providing communities that deal with hunger or food insecurity.
