Inspiration
Beans, peas, and other legumes increase satiety more than animal-based protein sources, according to research published online in Food & Nutrition Research. Researchers compared outcomes from three different meals: one high in animal protein, another high in plant-based protein, and one plant-based, low-protein meal. Out of 43 participants, those who consumed the plant-based, high-protein meal felt more satisfied while consuming fewer calories, compared with those who consumed the meal high in animal protein. The low-protein meal was as satiating and palatable as the animal-based, high-protein meal. Researchers suspect high fiber intake as a possible mechanism behind the satiety. This study supports previous data on bean consumption and weight management. Therefore the need to prevent bean and detect bean disease is key for hunger reduction in Aftica. if bean disease is identified earlier we could increase bean production and bring the hunger level in africa down
What it does
The farmer will be able to take photos of the bean leaves ,upload the photo into the system and the the system will compare the uploaded image with the available types of leaves in the dataset which it will later classify and give feedback to the farmer on whether the beans are disease free or not
How I built it
the web app is built on python programming language and using libraries such as tensorflow and keras .The dataset used id from Makerere university research lab which collected the information for bean disease
Challenges I ran into
fully building the project to completion in one day is hard so i havent completed the implementation of the App on a web framework
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I have managed to build the model that will be able to classify the types of leaves depending on their level of being affected
What I learned
I have done alot of research on this bean disease and i have learn to implement models in python
What's next for Zero-B-Disease
Since i am done with model building , the next part is to implement the model in a django or flask frame work for use by the farmers and then i will host it on heroku
