Inspiration

With the rise of electric vehicles (EVs), I noticed that one of the biggest challenges users face is not the vehicle itself, but the charging experience. In cities like Coimbatore, finding a nearby charging station, checking its availability, and waiting in queues can be frustrating and time-consuming.

I was inspired by how platforms like Google Maps make navigation simple and intuitive. However, I realized that there isn’t a dedicated solution that combines location-based discovery with a proper slot booking system for EV charging.

This led me to think: what if EV users could not only locate charging stations easily but also reserve their charging slots in advance?

That idea became the foundation of this project. I wanted to create a platform that:

Helps users quickly find nearby charging stations Reduces waiting time through advance booking Provides clear information about charging cost and duration Sends confirmation details to users for better reliability

Through this project, I aim to make EV charging more organized, efficient, and user-friendly, ultimately supporting the growing adoption of sustainable transportation.

What it does

This project is a web-based platform that helps EV users find nearby charging stations and book charging slots بسهولة and efficiently.

The website starts with an interactive map interface (similar to Google Maps), where I have highlighted multiple charging station locations across Coimbatore, including areas like Saravanampatti, Peelamedu, Town Hall, and SITRA Airport. Users can easily explore these locations and view basic details such as availability and charging cost.

Once a user selects a station, they are directed to a slot booking page where they can:

Enter their personal details Select their car company and model Choose a convenient charging date and time

After booking, the system automatically sends a confirmation email to the user. This email includes:

Charging start time Ending time Total charging cost

This ensures transparency and helps users plan their time better.

The platform also includes a contact page, where users can:

Reach out via phone for manual booking View the controller office address Get support if needed

Overall, the platform simplifies the EV charging process by combining station discovery, slot booking, and user communication into one seamless experience.

How we built it

I built this project as a full-stack web application by combining frontend design, backend logic, and third-party integrations to create a smooth user experience.

For the frontend, I used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to design a clean and interactive interface. The homepage integrates a map system inspired by Google Maps, where I manually added markers for EV charging stations in Coimbatore (Saravanampatti, Peelamedu, Town Hall, SITRA Airport, etc.). Each marker is clickable and provides basic station details.

For the backend, I implemented server-side logic using technologies like Node.js (or Python framework such as Flask/Django) to handle:

User data collection Slot booking requests Availability management

I used a database (MySQL / Firebase) to store:

User booking details Station information Time slot data

The slot booking system was designed to allow users to select their preferred time, while the backend ensures that slots are properly recorded and managed.

To improve user experience, I integrated an email service (SMTP/API) that automatically sends a confirmation email after booking. This email includes the charging start time, end time, and total cost.

Finally, I created a contact page to provide support details, including phone-based booking options and the controller office address.

By combining mapping, booking logic, and communication features, I was able to build a complete and practical EV charging solution.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating the map functionality similar to Google Maps and correctly placing multiple station markers with proper interaction Managing real-time slot availability to avoid double booking conflicts Designing a smooth flow between map selection and slot booking pages Handling user input validation for car details, timing, and email fields Implementing automated email confirmation with accurate booking details (start time, end time, cost) Ensuring proper calculation of charging duration and total cost dynamically Connecting frontend and backend seamlessly for data transfer and booking storage Structuring the database to efficiently store station data and user bookings Creating a user-friendly UI while maintaining all required functionalities Handling edge cases like invalid time slots, overlapping bookings, and empty inputs

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully built a working EV charging station locator with map integration Implemented a smooth and simple slot booking system Enabled automatic email confirmation with booking details Created a clean and user-friendly interface Connected all pages (map, booking, contact) into one complete flow 🚀

What we learned

How to integrate maps similar to Google Maps into a web application Building a complete flow from frontend to backend Managing user data and booking systems using databases Handling real-time slot booking logic and avoiding conflicts Implementing email notifications for better user communication Improving UI/UX to make the platform simple and user-friendly

What's next for ZENVOLTRON

Adding real-time charging status (available/occupied) for each station Integrating a secure online payment system for bookings Expanding to more cities beyond Coimbatore Developing a mobile app version for better accessibility Introducing AI-based slot recommendations for optimal charging times Enabling live navigation support using services like Google Maps Partnering with EV companies to provide accurate charging data and updates 🚀
