Inspiration

Fear of heights is a common fear that many people can understand. Though this fear may seem relatively harmless, there is a market that is affected by this. Airlines are missing out on customers who are afraid of flying and will not consider buying tickets. Zenith aims to convince these customers of flight safety in the hopes of bringing in these fearful first time fliers.

What it does

Zenith provides a collection of resources to reassure fearful fliers. Using its homepage survey, Zenith identifies which of its two methods would be best suited to relax its users. Upon identifying a person who would prefer facts and figures, Zenith recommends its statistics page to provide empirical information for flight safety. Otherwise, Zenith can identify that a user may need the meditation page to find calming exercises to keep anxiety at bay.

How we built it

Using generative AI, we were able to quickly generate a look for the app that let us focus on the content itself. We built our app in Electron to facilitate our team's multi-OS development and allow for the team's web development skills to be useful for this app development. Additionally, we researched safety statistics and adapted them into a concise format to easily convey the message of flight safety. In order to reach more customers, we implemented a survey to identify the best way to reassure a potential flier based on what they would find most reassuring.

Challenges we ran into

Though finding statistics is easy enough, we needed to interpret these figures to make them easily comprehensible by the average user. After some research, we decided that comparing fatalities between cars and airplanes puts safety into perspective by comparing it to cars, a method of transport most people feel safe in.

Another challenge was identifying which information would be most reassuring to a Zenith user. We considered that some customers would be reassured by hard facts, while others may find stress in numbers. To solve this issue, we decided to implement a survey on the home page that guides the user towards the resources that they would find most helpful.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to encompass all the potential needs of a fearful potential flyer. Through the user survey we algorithmically match the user with personalized results which ties everything together into a coherent, comprehensive resource.

What we learned

We learned some of the challenges that developers face when working on a tight deadline. On top of that, creating a resource that is not just user friendly, but also informative and in depth was something that taught us the importance of understanding what a user needs/expects.

What's next for Zenith

The next goal post would be deploying the website. Allowing users to actually connect and be able to take advantage of the resource is the primary goal for the Zenith project.
