Inspiration

As an immigrant, it was hard to understand how the financial industry in the US works. Money works in a totally different way than I am used to. Speaking with fellow immigrants and international students, it is clear I am not the only one facing that had to face this issue or is presently facing the issue.

What it does

The Zenguide app functions both as a teacher and as a tracker of finances. From topics like credit building to budgeting and savings, the platform is an all-in-one platform that simplifies the otherwise technical aspect of Wall Street. The app aims to help Immigrants understand their finances as simply as ABC.

How we built it

Building the app involved a brainstorming session that allowed me look at the app from a perspective outside of mine. By speaking to other immigrants and international students, it was easy to see what was needed on the app and what was not needed. As the only team member, I had to come up with a strong way to visualize the application and make it interactive. The app was 100% designed and prototyped with Figma.

Challenges we ran into

The bulk of the challenge was showing what the app could do despite being a solo team. One of the biggest challenge was navigating the prototype.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am particularly proud of my solution because it shows a MVP of what could work and actually validates what the idea could look like. As a personal challenge I had, this solution is one I think can help Immigrants and International students and even by extension, teenagers interested in learning more about their finances. Also, this stretched my skill level.

What we learned

I learnt new ways of prototyping and building MVPS without having to spend much.

What's next for Zenguide

I hope to continue building the app. Adding more features and engaging with the audience I think needs it the most. Another future is to add a second language like Spanish so that people that don't understand English could also be empowered.
