Inspiration

As someone who's been meditating for several months now, I've noticed a significant change in my outlook on life and my concentration. Not only am I calmer but I am more focused, and this was just from 10 minutes of meditation a day. This inspired me to help others learn about meditation and practice it themselves.

What it does

This website allows individuals to learn about meditation, its benefits, and how to do it, with weekly guided meditation videos, a lofi / binural beats 'radio' (Spotify embed), a meditation timer, an inspirational quote generator, a small blog hosted by John (me), a library with podcasts, articles, and videos about meditation.

How I built it

I used HTML, CSS, and JS (Standard WebDev tools) along with Spotify's playlist embeds. Some of the text was generated using ChatGPT, though mainly the blog.

Challenges I ran into

Formatting/ aligning images was one of my main challenges in this project. The dimensions of some of the images in my project were typically too large and didn't fit the standard screen resolution so I had to resize it, hide the overflow, etc. I also keep forgetting to put semicolons after my styles in CSS! Nonetheless, these challenges were good because I grew from them and learned to overcome them.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm proud of the functionality of the website and the fact that can actually help people in some way (even if nobody will visit it) and help people get into meditation. The visual design could be better but I learned so much about styles and visual design while making this website.

What I learned

I learned too many things to actually write down, and it's difficult to express how valuable of a learning experience creating this website was.

What's next for Zen Zone

Given that this website was made for a hackathon, it's unlikely that this website will be updated further unless the website attains legitimate traffic. Obviously if it were to gain some traction, scaling and constant updates would be required.
