Inspiration
Since attending our first semester in college we have noticed that mental health is a big deal in college and people can develop them very quickly so we wanted a way for people to know that someone is there to care for them.
What it does
Sends college students short encouraging messages to hopefully make there day.
How we built it
We used flutter with android studio and various other extensions such as firebase. We have a login page which leads to a page where the student can take a short questionnaire to see what may be bothering them. Finally that page leads to the main page where the user has a character/avatar who is with them all along the way.
Challenges we ran into
We ended up cutting out a lot of thing while also adding a lot. For example we added an interactive portion the the avatar which spits out positive messages if tapped on in the app. On the other hand we got rid of the calendar feature which would have a allowed the user the schedule when the want to we sent these positive messages but we shortly realized there is never a bad time for positivity.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The questionnaire was a major part of the app because it led to many other important parts. The avatar was something we came up with so that the app would be more fun.
What we learned
Your idea may sound easy in your head but execution is the most important part of coding.
What's next for ZEN YOU
We hope to add to the app to make it more social media like, without the negative stigma around it. We also hope to add links people can use to get help such as suicide hotlines.
