DEMO VIDEO:
Inspiration
Organisational drag is a process that undoubtedly prevents many of us from accomplishing important tasks at hand. With a plethora of productivity apps involving complex and advanced functionalities, our team’s mission was to create a web application that is simple, practical and non-stress inducing for our users.
What it does
The key features of our website application consist of an easily manageable to-do list, a session-timer, a user-friendly interface and a visual report of the user’s productivity progress. The user is initially prompted to enter their tasks, along with a realistic timeframe in which they hope to complete the task.
A countdown timer on the screen shows the user how much time they have remaining to complete their tasks, adding a spice of motivation at the end of each timed session.
Zen-mo allows users to analyze study trends over the period of one month in order to obtain an overview of their productivity progress. As a result, users are able to obtain qualitative results of their productivity progress at a glance through the implementation of a simple, colourful interface display.
How we built it
Our team used React, a Javascript library, in order to build our web application. Additional languages used consist of html, css, bootstrap, and Auth0.
Challenges we ran into
One of the major challenges our team encountered was constructing an idea that was both original and realistic to implement within the time-limit given. Additionally, adapting to the technicalities of a fairly new and unfamiliar library in REACT surely was challenging, but equally fun!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Coming into the NewHacks with very limited experience using REACT and Javascript, our group navigated the many challenges of collaborating with one another by contributing each of our strengths. As a team, we believe that our communication and division of tasks throughout this Hackathon was very well managed.
What we learned
While our team undoubtedly gained extensive knowledge of using REACT as well as Javascript, we also learned to divide and conquer tasks based on our individual strengths.
What's next for Zen-Mo
Our team plans to extend our idea by taking more creative and unique approaches in order to maximize user productivity. One approach would be to opt for a gamified interface which involves allowing users to share their progress with peers, adding that bit of pressure for users to hit their targets.
