Inspiration
Our main source of inspiration is to improve the experience of transportation in Mexico City (CDMX). We are convinced that the technology will help to achieve this goal, with no need of a big investment. Transportation within a city like Mexico is a daily challenge. There are many ways, but also many people using them. This journey not only is time taking but also resource consuming. Our mission is to optimize the time and resources that people spend every day in transportation activities. If we accomplish this mission, the experience of moving in the city will be enjoyable for both local citizens and visitors.
What it does
Zal is a unique experiencie that allows you to find yout path through CDMX in a clear , fast and simple way. We integrate an innovative route selection view to compare all the optimal and available routes in real-time. They are based on multimodal and simple transportation.
Zal allows the user to set up an origin and a destination . The app will retrieve information from several sources of transport options and suggest optimal routes. The app allows to choose among public, private and shared transportation, and also between walking and biking. The route selection contains information about the route such as expected time of arrival, expected time of the trip, calories count, cost, fuel consumption , main route references, and also the weather forecast. The app allows you to share your route and encourage your family, friends and friends of your friends to use carpooling.
How I built it
We made a research of several information resources and their API’s and built an app that integrates this resources and provides directions based on the information retrieved options to the user. We decided to use an avatar, Zal, as a part of the app in order to provide a friendlier experience and helps the citizens to improve the way they transport in the city.
Challenges I ran into
For a city as large as CDMX is unbelievable that there are very few resources of information, the public transport does not provide neither schedule nor GPS information in many cases.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We feel very proud of being able to integrate in one single app many information resources. We are pioneers on the route selection comparison by all the available means of transportation .
We think that we are helping the citizens of CDMX to consider more options of transportation , rather than always using a car .
What I learned
The transportation within a city as big and complex as CDMX may be improved with good ideas and technology is a key piece of the solution.
What's next for Zal
Zal may become the next big app for the citizens that are willing to have other transporting options integrated in one place.
