Inspiration
The inspiration for yupisave came from the realization that many low-income families in Singapore struggle with budgeting and managing their finances effectively. Despite the availability of financial tools and resources, there is a lack of solutions tailored to the specific challenges faced by these families. We wanted to create an app that would empower them to take control of their finances and work towards financial stability.
What it does
The app offers easy budget planning with a user-friendly interface, spending comparison with gamification elements to encourage savings, and price comparison of products across various stores to help families find the best deals
How we built it
Figma for User Interface (UI)
Challenges we ran into
Throughout the development process, I encountered several challenges like ensuring that the app is user-friendly for individuals with varying levels of financial literacy was a significant hurdle, and gathering accurate pricing data from various stores required a robust system for continuous updates and verification.
What we learned
The development of yupisave taught me valuable lessons about the importance of involving users in the design process to create a product that genuinely meets their needs and also insights into the challenges faced by low-income families have deepened my understanding of the socio-economic issues in the community.
What's next for yupisave
Partnering with NGOs and community groups to reach more families in need and offer workshops on financial literacy and budgeting, as well as introducing features such as automatic expense tracking and personalized budgeting recommendations based on user spending habits.
