Inspiration
My friends and I used to do compliment circles where we would go around to each person and give them a compliment. These were always so sweet and made me feel so grateful. Wellbeing is so powerful when shared with others!
What it does
Give & Get is an integrated wellbeing app and social media app. Everyday at a random time, everyone on the app will receive a notifcation that it's time to journal. They're presented with a random prompt that encourages reflection on a happy moment or a piece of gratitude, and they can see what everyone else says too! In addition to that, you're also assigned a random friend everyday to reach out to. Before you can see who reached out to you, you have to send that random friend a message! We wanted to bring people together in a happy way.
How we built it
We used figma to build a prototype. We used Swift and SwiftUI for the mobile design, and utilized Firebase for the backend web-authentication and post storage.
Challenges we ran into
We have both never developed a Mobile App, used Figma, or used Swift (Swift UI/Firebase, etc). Learning these skills under the time crunch was both very challenging and rewarding!
Collaborating with git was also tough as we've both mostly worked solo, and so it was almost like learning a new language in itself as well!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our first hackathon! Our first mobile app! Being able to have a deliverable in the time crunch.
What we learned
This was our first time working with these languages and app development, but we were able to start building the app with a lot of the features like user authentication and individualized feeds
What's next for Give&Get
Implementation of Journal and Random Assignment, as well as friends list integration
