A magical space to learn and collaborate about indigenous cultural heritage, contribute to good causes and get rewarded while being introduced to the blockchain

Inspiration

Yucahu's grand vision is to recreate an Indigenous Virtual World. People would learn about cultural heritage, collaborate on digitalizing all assets of a lost ethnic group, provide economic sustainability to organizations focused on preserving cultural heritage, and be introduced to the blockchain in the process.

Imagine traveling 500-600 years ago and be able to live in a world that the Tainos lived in. Having trueque as commerce, be able to play Batu, explore lands, become a cacique, etc.

What it does

We decided to start this ambitious journey to creating Yuchau, with a 2000 NFT Collection.

The main art is a petroglyph = carving on a rock. The carvings are composed of the most common 2000 names based on the US CENSUS of 2020. This names were converted into the Naguake Taino Pictographic Alphabet to simulate the Taíno times.

The idea is to bring the 'souvenir' experience at the end of a museum visit to the Blockchain era. Today you can see people buying a keychain with their names. With this project they would be able to purchase a personalized Petroglyph NFT and get introduced to the future of Yucahu. At the same time, museums and organizations focused on cultural heritage (i.e ICP) would get royalties based on those sales helping them fund further projects.

How we built it

Looked up the most common names based on the US Census and converted all them to the Taino Pictographic Alphabet using photoshop and different historical petroglyphs as one of the layers.

Challenges we ran into

Finding digital assets to start the project. Learning the whole workflow of how crypto works in just a weekend: solidity/nft marketplaces/gamefi/defi...

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Ended up with a collection leveraging cultural heritage and technology in a simple way that people understand. (almost everybody is attached to their name)

What we learned

There's a lot that we don't know in this new Crypto world. But definitely excited to keep on learning, being part of the community and building.

What's next for Yucahu

Have the ability to mint any name and convert it into a petroglyph (improving the user experience), expand the collection of assets for Yucahu (think of digitalizing all assets that existed 600 years ago), and increasing utility of these assets to augment the value of Yucahu.
