Inspiration
We were inspired by Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away! Yubaba is an iconic character in that movie. In the movie the main character, Chihiro Ogino, encounters our antagonist Yubaba. After attempting to frighten Chihiro away, Yubaba eventually concedes however steals away takes away the second kanji from Chihiro's name renaming her Sen.
What it does
Our bot lets you interact directly with Yubaba just like Chihiro did!
How we built it
We built it using Java using the Java Discord API.
Challenges we ran into
One of our members had technical issues for the majority of it. Unfortunately, this setback rendered a teammate incapable of contributing to the coding aspect. Along with this, being remote definitely challenged our communication as we weren't able to easily assist each other as opposed to being in person and a seat away. Additionally, this was the first time two of our members coded in Java, which ended up only being a slight learning curve.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is the first time we grouped up and for the two of us, the first hackathon we attempted and completed a project.
What we learned
We learned how to use Java, JDA, and git collaboratively!!
What's next for Yubaba Discord Bot
Yubaba will convert names from English to Japanese, remove a kanji character, then convert it back to English!
