What is YouTube Description Extractor?
A free web tool that extracts everything from any YouTube video in one click — full description, hidden tags, HD thumbnails, complete transcript and detailed metadata.
Inspiration YouTube removed tags from the public UI in 2020. Creators lost visibility into what tags competitors were using. I built this tool to bring that data back — for free.
What it does

How I built it
Built with vanilla JavaScript on the frontend and Node.js on the backend, using the YouTube Data API v3 for metadata extraction and custom parsing for transcript and tag retrieval.
Challenges
The biggest challenge was extracting hidden tags reliably across different video types — regular videos, Shorts, and live replays all have slightly different data structures.
What I learned
How to build reliable API wrappers that handle edge cases gracefully, and how to present raw metadata in a way that's actually useful for non-technical users.
