Inspiration As a voter, it can be daunting to keep track of laws, ordinances, and the involvement of politicians, especially during election season. This inspired us to create a legislative tracker app that encourages learning and promotes reading more about legislation. By providing transparency and accessibility, we aim to help citizens become more informed and engaged in the democratic process.

What it Does TalaBatas simplifies the legislative process for users by tracking the progress of ordinances and resolutions at the municipal level. It offers detailed profiles of politicians and their contributions, educational modules on the legislative system, and gamified features that reward civic engagement. Users can monitor legislative actions, learn more about governance, and make informed decisions with ease.

How We Built It

  1. Ideation We conceptualized the app to address challenges in legislative transparency and citizen engagement.

  2. Researching We studied legislative processes and voter needs to ensure the app tackles real-world problems effectively.

  3. Designing Through Figma We created user-friendly wireframes and prototypes to simplify complex legislative processes.

  4. Developing Through FlutterFlow We built the app’s frontend and backend using FlutterFlow, integrating key features like gamification and chatbots.

  5. Documenting We documented technical workflows and user guides for efficient updates and maintenance.

  6. Finalizing, Debugging, and Testing We tested and refined the app to ensure a smooth and reliable user experience.

Challenges we ran into We struggled to understand and simplify legal jargon, ensuring that the legislative processes were accessible to all users without losing their meaning or context.

Accomplishments that we are proud of We gained a deeper understanding of the legislative process in the Philippines. We successfully executed a minimum viable product (MVP) in under 24 hours. We applied key learnings from the workshop, including integrating a chatbot through FlutterFlow.

What we learned This project taught us the importance of quickly balancing user engagement with educational value in a hackathon setting. We learned how to simplify complex legislative information on a tight timeline and gained hands-on experience with using FlutterFlow to rapidly build both the frontend and backend of the app.

What's next Rest and Take Into Account the Feedback After the hackathon, we plan to take a break and carefully review the feedback we receive today. This will help us identify areas for improvement, refine the app’s features, and ensure that user concerns and suggestions are addressed moving forward.

Enhance the App We will focus on enhancing the app’s functionality based on user feedback and further testing. This includes refining the user interface, expanding the educational modules, improving the gamification system, and optimizing performance for a smoother experience. We also plan to add more features to keep users engaged and informed.
