Inspiration

Youtube is definitely where we usually go when we struggle with a concept, and resuming videos from where we paused or want to continue , especially sometimes in lectures a timestamp defines the important points stated in the video. The pandemic and remote learning where we needed youtube more than ever to learn and watch content, what if we could store the time stamp and write notes. Continuing the video wherever and whenever just one click away. Our team decided to make a chrome extension which enables us to do that.

What it does

The chrome extension called Youtube Notebook provides users with the ability to record the timestamp wherever they paused the youtube video. The timestamp exactly shows above where the user can add a description and name it whatever they like. The timestamp with the following information gets saved to the extension and is easily accessible whenever you click the extension.

How we built it

The Extension was built through Visual Studio Code and the language we used was HTML, JavaScript, and tools provided by Google (extensions resources, and API’s).

Challenges we ran into

-We had trouble accessing the Google Local Storage API -Three of the team members:Mae, Aban and Zaina’s first ever hackathon and James second hackathon so as a team we tried to gain as much experience possible -Time was less and difficult to manage meetings around different time zones -Were not able to add much features as we wanted to since time was of the essence -We were unable to give chrome permission to load a javascript file -We were unable to extract the link from the row and put it on the download button

Accomplishments that we're proud of

-First time building a chrome extension -Learned a lot especially working in less time -Working as a team together towards a project -Extracting timestamp and storing it

What we learned

-Managing studies and hackathon both at the same time -Team management -Leadership for all of us (taking the lead on whatever the task we should do)

What's next for Youtube-Notebook-Google-Extension

Intend to add more features to this extension for example while reading a blog/article we can bookmark a specific part of the page and add information(name and description) regarding it.

Add a download link button to work full within the chrome popout
