Inspiration

I never know what videos are good because youtube disabled dislikes, and because comments are time consuming to read.

What it does

It can use the youtube search function, get information about a video, get information about a channel, get the comments of a video, get trending videos(if you want to see what music is popular etc.), get videos from a certain playlist, and get the playlist of music an artist has released(gets autogenerated topic channel).

How we built it

I build it in Python using FastMCP and HTTPX. I used Claude AI to do writing and debugging. To use the server, I plugged it into Claude.

Challenges we ran into

I ran into a lot of challenges related to attaching the python file to claude to get it to work.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am honestly just happy that it works...

What we learned

I learned how to make an MCP server, I didn't know before. I also learned how to prompt AI to help debug and write code.

What's next for Youtube MCP server

Probably adding something that can read transcripts.
