Inspiration
People should have an easy way to get paid for producing good content. The tricky part is incentivizing people to pay content creators. Why would you pay for something you can get for free? The solution is to let payers share in subsequent revenues for endorsing content. If you pay $1 to a content creator, you are not just tipping the author - you are investing in their content, and can profit if enough other people also support them. Each "investor" splits their payment between the content creator and other earlier investors. The earlier you invest, the more you may be paid.
Yours is like reddit, but where upvotes are bitcoin, and you have a reason to upvote something early. Not only are you supporting the content creator, but you may get paid a lot if a piece of content you support takes off and goes viral.
What it does
It is a web app that lets anybody post content. It comes with an integrated bitcoin wallet, so you can immediately begin receiving bitcoin payments with literally zero signup - all you have to do is visit the page and post something. "Payers" or "investors" look for good content to support. When they pay the author $1, they also pay one randomly chosen earlier investor $1 as well, splitting the revenue between the creator and other supporters.
How we built it
It is a node.js app that uses React on the front end, plus Datt, an open source tool for managing content and bitcoin payments. The backend uses an AWS database. We purchased the domain name yours.press for this app.
Challenges we ran into
The bitcoin wallet has bugs and loses money occasionally :)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We actually made a really complicated thing work in one weekend, with great teamwork between our 4 members, plus supporters encouraging us on social media :)
What we learned
React kicks ass.
What's next for Yours
We're going to refine the product and launch an MVP publicly :)
If it's yours, post it on Yours.
