Inspiration
Hi, We’re excited to introduce you to YourNeighbor, a web application that transforms neighborhoods into communities of sharing. It’s inspired by a spirit of mutualism- the idea that mutual dependence isn’t just beneficial for, but necessary to the social well being and prosperity of the individual and community.
YourNeighbor allows neighbors to lend, borrow, and share items with each other for free, reducing waste, fostering community bonds, and allowing those without the financial means to otherwise access these items or resources the ability to do so.
YourNeighbor is an almost social media-like platform that allows neighbors to lend, borrow, and share items with each other for free, reducing waste, fostering community bonds, and allowing those without the financial means to otherwise access these items or resources the ability to do so. We store information on each listing so it can be intelligently searched for. Users create accounts that are stored and encrypted. Users can then discuss with each other through a noticeboard.
The Problem
In today's world, we often buy items that are rarely used – think power drills, ladders, or tents. These items sit idle in our homes, taking up space and resources. But what if we could easily borrow these items from a neighbor instead?
Scenarios: Exploring New Hobbies, Housewarming
Imagine a family eager to explore a new, physically active group hobby. They’re considering camping, rock climbing, or scuba diving, but the high cost barrier to try them all is daunting. YourNeighbor could shatter this barrier. Or envision you’ve recently moved into a place of your own and you want to host some friends for a barbecue and bonfire on a nice Saturday. But wait: You don’t own a grill or a fire pit. YourNeighbor makes it easier to borrow these items from nearby neighbors. These connections not only eliminate the need for unnecessary purchases, but it also opens the door to inviting your neighbors to the barbecue, fostering stronger community ties and friendships.
