🧬 YourDNA – Redefining the Resume

🌟 Inspiration

Resumes are outdated. They focus on what you've done, not who you are. After years in tech, hiring, freelancing, and mentoring, I realized that titles, dates, and bullet points fail to capture human potential.

I asked myself:
“What if we could describe people like we describe systems — structured, transparent, and insightful?”

That idea became YourDNA — a tool that helps individuals showcase their professional DNA through patterns, traits, motivation, execution style, and more — not just a static CV.


🚀 What It Does

YourDNA is a tool that replaces the traditional resume with a dynamic, structured personality and professional profile.

✅ How It Works:

  • Users take an interactive assessment.
  • Each answer maps to one or more of the 8 key pillars:

    • 🚀 Potential
    • 🎯 Ability

    • 🔥 Motivation
    • 🪞 Self-awareness
    • 🌍 Environment Fit
  • The system calculates weighted scores based on answers.
  • Generates a unique YourDNA Profile, showing dominant characteristics (e.g., “65% Builder, 35% Innovator”) and a personality code that users can share.

This helps users better communicate their strengths — and helps companies hire based on fit, not just history.


🔧 How We Built It

  • Backend: Python + FastAPI
  • Database: PostgreSQL (for users, questions, weights, and results)
  • Frontend: Next.js (for the assessment UI and dashboard)
  • Hosting: Supabase (backend) + Vercel (frontend)
  • Design: Figma for UI/UX wireframes and prototyping

⚙️ Core Logic:

  • Developed a scoring engine that maps each answer to multiple pillars using weighted percentages.
  • Built an algorithm to convert those weights into a clear, shareable personality snapshot.

⚠️ Challenges We Ran Into

  • Defining measurable traits: Turning soft skills into structured, quantifiable data.
  • Balancing simplicity vs. depth: Keeping the experience light but insightful.
  • Time constraints: Crafting the scoring model, backend, and UI quickly during the hackathon.
  • Avoiding bias: Ensuring fairness and inclusivity across different backgrounds.

  • Took an abstract idea and shipped a working prototype in just a few days.
  • Built a scoring engine that feels accurate, fun, and insightful.
  • Designed a profile output that users feel actually represents them — not just generic labels.
  • Balanced psychological depth with a clean, intuitive UX.

📚 What We Learned

  • Structuring human potential into meaningful data is challenging but achievable.
  • Simplicity wins. People value clear, actionable insights over complex reports.
  • The resume truly is broken — and people are hungry for a better alternative.
  • Hackathons are proof that constraints fuel creativity.

🔮 What’s Next for YourDNA

  • Add AI-driven career or team-fit recommendations based on user DNA.
  • Convert the prototype into a full SaaS/API product.
  • Integrate with job boards, hiring platforms, freelance marketplaces, and learning tools.
  • Launch “DNA-for-Teams” to help managers understand team dynamics.
  • Refine the scoring model using real-world user feedback and expert input.
