Inspiration
Moving countries shouldn’t mean leaving your professional identity behind. Many internationally trained professionals struggle to find credential evaluation services, document translation support, and clear guidance on pursuing jobs or higher education in the U.S. We created YourCamino to help turn that frustration into a path forward.
What it does
YourCamino is a multilingual navigator that organizes the steps, estimated costs, timelines, and providers relevant to a user’s career or education goals. Our hackathon prototype focuses on a Brazilian-trained nurse navigating the process of returning to nursing in the U.S.
How we built it
We designed the experience around a short intake that connects a user’s background and goals to a personalized roadmap. Our approach combines structured pathway rules, provider information, multilingual guidance, and AI-assisted drafting of transcript request letters.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was narrowing a broad problem into a useful demo. Requirements vary by profession, state, and individual circumstances, so we focused on one nursing pathway. We also had to consider how to communicate uncertain costs and timelines and distinguish credential requirements from work authorization.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a focused concept that brings scattered information together into one clear journey. What we’re proudest of is grounding it in real stories from driven, motivated people navigating this path themselves. Their experiences confirmed the need and shaped every feature, so the app solves the problems people actually face.
What we learned
We learned that we can basically crowdsource the way people navigate the process today into one place, and given our communities use community to help others guide their own processes, we want to make this easier for everyone to not feel alone in the process themselves. The challenge goes beyond finding information—it’s understanding which information applies to you and what to do first. A helpful navigator needs clear sequencing, reliable sources, and guidance that recognizes the experience users already bring.
What's next for YourCamino
Adding ways to find community with other immigrants who have undergone the same process and want to have moral support and feel less lonely in their journey, adding more providers to the network of users, and adding a way to learn from multiple process as people enter their path to reaching their career goals so that others have an easier time understanding the process.
