Inspiration

I happened to discover that LitRPGs were a thing right at the same time I discovered this contest, so it sort of just happened to work out. As an aspiring TTRPG designer, it's not that unusual for me to be thinking about a concept similar to them, more that it's weird I only just recently learned I could've been reading video games too? Lit! (Pun intended.)

What it does

It takes information about game mechanics and worldbuilding from the user and spins a tale that could be the subject of a novel. It asks the user to create a concept for a hero and then expands on the concept based on RPG elements that the user finds interesting.

How we built it

Most of the aspects were derived from elements talked about in articles about the LitRPG genre that I had recently read, and of course I heavily referenced the other RPG-style apps to see what I personally found fun and tried to integrate them.

Challenges we ran into

I do hate to say it, but every now and then the AI's worst moments was when it was attempting to be moral and exercise ethical limits. I don't think it's a good system considering I could just slightly change it's instructions for it to accept the same prompt, and it feels oddly embarrassing when it seems to respond to you like you wanted it to write intense gore when all you said was "vivid literary combat scene".

Playing around with different models was also an issue at times. There were moments after getting widely off-mark answers where I would sigh deeply and say "Claude, you're fired..." than switch to the other models available see what would happen. Sometimes I did that only to end up switching back to Claude. Then to switch to Claude Light from there.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I actually began to feel like I got really good at writing the prompts, ordering the flow of the widgets, and making it user-friendly.

What we learned

It's more fun to play around with AI than I thought because this wasn't a thing I did too often before this contest.

What's next for Your Very Own LitRPG

I want to make a blog or Wattpad thingy where I write half of a LitRPG and the AI writes the other half of it. That might not be "next" for this project, per se, but I consider them related. It's about LitRPGs. It involves AI. I'm the one making it. Spiritual successor is the word for that right?.
