Inspiration

Your Pals was inspired by the growing need for a companion that seamlessly blends technology with real-world experiences. I wanted to create a fun, helpful, and personalized assistant that could enhance people's lives—whether they’re exploring new cities, rediscovering their hometown, managing daily tasks, or improving their health. I realized that by combining AI with AR technology, I could offer an engaging, interactive experience that turns daily routines into adventures, while also serving as an educational and motivational tool.

What it does

Your Pals is a customizable AR companion powered by AI that transforms ordinary moments into extraordinary experiences. The app uses augmented reality to bring a virtual companion—such as a panda, dog, or cat—into your real world, guiding you through everything from exploring cities to completing everyday tasks. AI allows Your Pals to offer personalized travel recommendations, real-time translations, fun games, cultural insights, fitness routines, cooking tips, and mindfulness practices. Whether you're discovering new places, working out, learning a language, or organizing your day, Your Pals offers an interactive, AI-powered experience designed to make life more fun and efficient.

How we built it

The process involved multiple stages: Research (Interviews, Market Research, Competitor Analysis) - Insight - Define (User Persona, User Flow, Information Architecture) - Design - Prototype - Testing - Iteration.

I began by conducting thorough research to identify frustration points and understand users’ needs. Insights like "Daily tasks are so boring," "There’s nothing to do in my neighborhood," and "I don’t want to travel because I don’t know the language or the city" helped shape the project. Using this feedback, I developed user personas, crafted an information architecture, and mapped user flows. Tools like Figma and Shape XR were pivotal in transforming these ideas into wireframes and an interactive prototype.

For the video creation, I leveraged AI at every step—designing characters, animating, and producing the final video using tools like MidJourney and Runway. Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop added the finishing touches to ensure the result matched my vision perfectly.

Challenges I ran into

One of the biggest challenges I faced was managing and prioritizing a wide array of ideas and tasks. Balancing the scope of features while ensuring each one was well-executed required careful attention. Additionally, transforming my static designs into dynamic, responsive animations while ensuring smooth interaction with the AI was a significant hurdle. This involved not only fine-tuning the AI's capabilities but also ensuring the animations maintained fluidity and consistency across various user scenarios.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I’m particularly proud of the seamless integration between AI and AR, which makes Your Pals feel like a true, interactive companion. Successfully using AI to animate and prototype the experience I envisioned was a major accomplishment. Additionally, working on a prototype specifically designed for AR glasses, with the potential to develop it further in the future, is something I’m extremely proud of. The ability to bring this vision to life while ensuring it works smoothly in an AR environment has been a rewarding challenge.

What I learned

Through this project, I learned the importance of balancing creativity with practicality, especially when working with cutting-edge technologies like AI and AR. I gained a deeper understanding of how to integrate AI seamlessly into user experiences to create dynamic and responsive interactions. I also learned how crucial user feedback is in shaping the design process, particularly in addressing pain points and enhancing usability. Additionally, the process of prototyping for AR glasses taught me how to design with a forward-thinking mindset, ensuring the app can evolve as new technologies emerge. This experience has strengthened my skills in AI integration, AR development, and user-centered design.

Complete testing and conduct further research, including usability testing, interviews, and surveys, to ensure the app addresses users' problems and meets their expectations.
