Inspiration
We wanted to build an interesting project that could help us daily. We decided to make a customisable screensaver. We also had some inspiration from Minecraft Plus (April fools Website with minecraft screensavers) where the textures of the screensaver were randomised.
What it does
By creating an account and importing photo URL's, you can create your own screensaver with multiple functionalities. The images you enter can bounce (like the DVD corner game), spin, change colour and flip!
How we built it
We used Flask(Python), HTML, CSS and Javascript. We also used git on github to split the workload and merge them together.
Challenges we ran into
It was a hard trying to connect the front-end (HTML, CSS and Javascript) to the back-end (Flask and databases). There were some issues with the websites not looking the same on different computers.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to combine a database and a website in order to create a dynamic webpage. We were also happy that our aims were all achieved in the short amount of time.
What we learned
It isn't easy to create a project within a short amount of time. We also had to organise our time and not procrastinate. We also learnt how to split the workload, and also the importance of communication since we were making this website from different locations.
What's next for Your Own Screensaver
We will try to add more screensavers and functions that can help improve the quality of the website. We also plan to make the pages more interesting by adding themes, other than having a light/dark mode only. We will also try to get an actual online database to store the username, passwords, and image urls instead of a local database which we are currently using.
