Inspiration

Social Media has a lot of influence on people today. In both positive and negative ways, social media has almost become an essential part of being a member of society. With such a powerful tool, there is so much good that can be done that does not happen. In fact, good deeds come in waves and is inconsistent. The aim of this app is to change weekly challenges and make a difference in the world.

What it does

It is just like you any average social media app, however, one main difference are the weekly challenges! Every week a new sustainable challenge is put on and the one that has the most the likes wins the weekly challenge. Having this competitive aspect makes it so users motivate each other to do better in terms of saving the planet.

How I built it

I used the MERN stack to build this app. Using MongoDB to hold our data on users and React to make our front end run smoothly with out Express backend.

Challenges we ran into

Realizing MapApis are not free or need a team's approval before receiving it. Also, I soled this project so it was a lot of workload on me but it was a new experience and challenged me in a good way (but i was exhausted).

Accomplishments that I am proud of

Accomplishing what I did even after arriving at the event late and taking a midterm in between.

What I learned

I learned how to effectively make my frontend look nicer. As a primarily backend coder I always found it hard to make a UI I am proud of.

What's next for Your Green Planet

Just more features! Integrated chat systems, integrating videos into the app, and even monetary gains of completing a challenges! The sky is the limit.
