Inspiration
Why does the W.E.B. DuBois Library have a fence around it? What could a bunch of geese do if they had access to bricks? These two questions formed the beginning of our project.
What it does
We designed a 2D platformer video game where the player controls Sam the Minuteman, the UMass mascot to climb platforms to the top of the library, all while avoiding bricks dropped by geese.
How we built it
We used Godot as the primary design tool, and each person used a slightly different software/website to design the game's pixel art. The Godot Engine was used to define the physics of the game, code the logic and integrate all the assets for the final game.
Challenges we ran into
It took us some time to get GitHub configured with Godot so that our team could share the project. Creating the pixel art by hand from scratch was a pain, especially the library you see in the background is what 4+ hours of straight pixel peeping returns!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Barring the smooth gameplay, we are proud of the way our game turned out. It gives a retro vibe with comic sound effects and a smooth user experience to indulge in the game.
What we learned
Using git and allocating assets among our members. We discovered there is a hidden artist in some of us when creating the Pixel art :)
What's next for Your Goose is Bricked
There are many more features that can be added and changed about it. We can make it more complex by adding levels to the game, choosing difficulty, and having a multiplayer mode.
