Inspiration

When coming up with the idea for our hack, we realized that as engineering students, and specifically first year students, we all had one big common problem... time management. We all somehow manage to run out of time and procrastinate our work, because it's hard to find motivation to get tasks done. Our solution to this problem is an app that would let you make to-do lists, but with a twist.

What it does

The app will allow users to make to-do lists, but each task is assigned a number of points you can receive on completion. Earning points allows you to climb leaderboards, unlock character accessories, and most importantly, unlock new levels of a built-in game. The levels of the built in game are not too long to complete, as to not take away too much studying, but it acts as a reward system for people who love gaming. It also has a feature where you can take pictures of your tasks as your completing them, that you can share with friends also on the app, or archive for yourself to see later. The app includes a pomodoro timer to promote studying, and a forum page where you are able to discuss various educational topics with other users to further enhance your learning experience on this app.

How we built it

Our prototype was built on HTML using a very basic outline. Ideally, if we were to go further with this app, we would use a a framework such as Django or Flask to add a lot more features then this first prototype.

Challenges we ran into

We are beginners!! This was a first hackathon for almost all of us, and we all had very limited coding knowledge previously, so we spent a lot of time learning new applications, and skills, and didn't get much time to actually build our app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learning new applications! We went through many different applications over the past 24 hours before landing on HTML to make our app with. We looked into Django, Flask, and Pygame, before deciding on HTML, so we gained some experience with these as well.

What we learned

We learned a lot over the weekend from various workshops, and hands-on personal experience. A big thing we learned is the multiple components that go into web development and how complicated it can get. This was a great insight into the world of real coding, and the application of coding that is sure to stick with us, and keep us motivated to keep teaching ourselves new things!

What's next for Your Future

Hopefully, in the future we're able to further develop Your Future to make it complete, and make it run the way we hope. This will involve a lot of time and dedication to learning new skills for us, but we hope to take that time and put in the effort to learn those skills!
