Inspiration

FinBuzz was inspired by the need for individuals to gain clear insights into their finances in an easy way. We wanted to solve a real pain point—making sense of messy bank statements and we saw an opportunity to transform complex bank statements into actionable, data-driven insights, empowering users to manage their money smarter.

What it does

Our solution transforms unstructured bank statements into an interactive, data-driven dashboard. It delivers instant expense analysis, smart budgeting insights, fraud detection, and visual financial summaries that too all in real time.

How we built it

We built FinBuzz using a modern tech stack:

Backend: Flask handles our APIs while integrating Llama Index for data structuring, RAG for merging retrieval with LLM insights from OpenAI GPT-4o with MongoDB and AWS for scalable storage. Frontend: React powers our fully responsive UI. Authentication: Google Auth ensures secure user logins and data privacy.

Challenges we ran into

Converting unstructured PDFs into queryable data reliably. Implementing fast semantic search with vector indexing under time constraints. Seamlessly integrating diverse technologies into a cohesive system. Balancing speed, accuracy, and security in a hackathon environment.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Delivering a fully functional prototype within a tight hackathon timeline. Successfully combining RAG with vector indexing to yield precise financial insights. Building an interactive, user-friendly dashboard that makes financial data easily digestible. Implementing secure user authentication quickly using Google Auth. Achieving seamless integration of advanced AI techniques like RAG and vector indexing into a real-world product.

What we learned

The importance of rapid iteration and testing in a fast-paced hackathon setting. How powerful combining retrieval techniques with LLMs can be for real-world applications. To prioritize a end to end working solution instead of large half baked ideas that we could not deliver in 3 days.

What's next for FinBuzz

Enhance predictive analytics and add more advanced financial forecasting. Expand integrations to include multiple financial data sources and accounts. Refine our dashboard with richer visualizations and interactive features.
