Inspiration

As a writer myself, I've found challenge using platforms like ChatGPT to support my research and writing process. Also, a lot of valuable time for me and other writers alike is spent collecting information and drafting content that could be more valuable when used to strategize and engage with readers.

There is a similar need to business owners to free themselves from working "in" the business so they can think about where the business is going from a holistic point of view, while growing their business with credible, reliable, and efficiently-generated content that adds value to customers.

My template targets writers and business owners - a large and growing market - by greatly improving efficiency, accessibility, and reliability in the AI content generation process.

What it does

The template automatically generates a well-researched blog with a list of credible sources based on a prompt and tone of voice (optional) that the user inputs by creating a new row. It is generated through an iterative process, which creates more reliable, credible, and transparent content since the AI is first used to pull and summarize a list of credible sources (from sites like Harvard Business Review), and then an outline and blog is generated based on this research. This is an incremental innovation and improvement from platforms like ChatGPT where the sources cannot be verified or traced easily, and the user has no say on which sources are used.

In my template, the user can choose to customize any component of the content generation process, whether it's sources used, the outline, or the end product -- this gives much more flexibility, control, and engagement in the process. This empowers anyone to create content that has their personal touch and unique voice with the assistance of AI, instead of being overpowered by AI, which aligns perfectly with Coda's vision.

How we built it

I built this AI assistant entirely using the Coda platform. Specifically, I used the AI Columns feature to automatically generate content based on other columns/customizable user inputs.

Challenges we ran into

Determining an impact use case was initially challenging, so I drew on my own pain points as a writer and used research of real user needs to find content development is an area where Coda AI has very good potential.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I learned how to develop templates and all the main AI features at Coda, and created a product I know I and many of my writer and business connections would love to use that will save lots of time.

What we learned

I'm surprised and inspired by the vast potential of AI -- the capability to go beyond a simple chatbot to program multiple steps into AI generation fascinates me, and I appreciate this unique feature Coda offers.

What's next for Your Coda AI Blog Writing Assistant

I plan to promote it to small to medium sized businesses eager to grow their online presence through content marketing and SEO. There is great opportunity to develop a suite of tools alongside the blog writing assistant to support small to medium sized businesses using Coda and its AI functionalities.
