Inspiration
We are college students seeing chatGPT all around us, curious about the sustainability of genAI. We wanted to calculate how much each of us have contributed to the energy consumption of ChatGPT.
What it does
Teaches users about how much energy and water generativeAI consumes (specifically chatGPT 4o) and allows users to calculate how much they personally contribute based on how often they use genAI.
How we built it
Next.js app with tailwind for styling and shadcn components. Heavy use of shadcn charts, which is built on Recharts. A lot of research went into building the visualizations and gathering insights.
Challenges we ran into
There is limited available data, leading us to rely on estimations from research papers. These estimations are changing often as new data becomes available, leading us to only the most recent estimate.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The friends we made along the way, and also making a website with depth and interactivity. We all learned new technologies here and made a good looking cohesive site together.
What we learned
Some members learned React, tailwind, and Next.JS for the first time, we all were new to shadcn components and making charts in web dev
What's next for Your AI Footprint
integration with a users chatgpt account to get an exact calculation of how much energy is being used. Charts comparing different AI models and sizes. More in depth projections would be nice
