🏠 ApnaThikana AI — Smarter Living, Together

💡 Inspiration

Living in a hostel or PG is about more than just having a room. Students often have to manage shared expenses, electricity bills, cleaning responsibilities, reminders, and differences in roommates' habits. These everyday issues can create confusion and unnecessary stress.

This inspired me to build ApnaThikana AI, a project designed to make shared living simpler, more organized, and more comfortable for hostel and PG students.

🛠️ How I Built It

I built ApnaThikana AI as a web-based application with a clean, student-friendly interface. The website brings several everyday living tools together in one place, including:

Smart Savings: Estimate electricity costs and explore ways to manage expenses.
Roommate Hub: Organize shared expenses, chores, and roommate preferences.
AI Assistant: Provide helpful suggestions for common hostel and PG situations.
Action Centre: Manage proposed actions, agreements, and reminders.
Dashboard: Keep important information accessible through a single interface.

I used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build the website, create the responsive layout, implement interactive features, and maintain relevant data in browser storage.

📚 What I Learned

As a first-year B.Tech CSE (AI/ML) student, this project gave me an opportunity to turn an idea into a working web application. I gained practical experience in frontend development, JavaScript logic, UI design, browser storage, and organizing multiple features within one project.

I also learned that building a useful product is not only about writing code. It is about understanding users' everyday problems and designing a simple experience around them.

🚧 Challenges I Faced

One of my biggest challenges was bringing several features together without making the interface confusing. I had to organize different sections, connect interactive elements, manage saved data, and make the experience consistent across the application.

Working on this project also helped me understand the difference between rule-based suggestions and a fully integrated AI model. It taught me the importance of being transparent about what a prototype currently does and what could be improved in future versions.

My goal is to continue improving ApnaThikana AI with more capable AI assistance, smarter personalized suggestions, better reminder support, and improved collaboration between roommates.

ApnaThikana AI is my step toward building practical technology that solves everyday student problems — because shared living should feel easier, not more complicated.
